RTL will broadcast twelve games at the 2024 European Football Championship

Somewhat surprisingly, Telekom secured the broadcasting rights for the 2024 European Football Championship. But the games will not only be shown there: RTL is also broadcasting some games. In addition, the Cologne broadcaster shows highlights of all games shortly after the final whistle.

Telekom and the TV broadcaster RTL are working extensively together on the 2024 European Football Championship in Germany. Among other things, the two companies will jointly operate a TV studio and large parts of the production infrastructure at the RTL location in Cologne. In addition, RTL broadcasts twelve games on free TV, which can also be seen on the streaming service RTL+. In addition, RTL is allowed to broadcast the highlights of all matches in the tournament on its platforms in up to six minutes shortly after the final whistle.

Telekom will broadcast all 51 matches via its fee-based streaming service MagentaTV, including five matches exclusively. MagentaTV customers do not have to pay extra for the EM, it was said at a press conference in the RheinEnergieStadion in Cologne.

Telekom not only transmits

In 2019, Telekom surprisingly secured the complete media rights for the European Championship in Germany from the European Football Union UEFA, leaving the public broadcasters ARD and ZDF behind, among other things. A year and a half later, they acquired sublicenses from Telekom. Accordingly, they will broadcast 34 of the 51 games live. Among other things, all games of the German team, the opening game, the semi-finals and the final.

Telekom also announced that it will also be a national sponsor at the European Championship. This includes, among other things, the presence on the LED perimeter boards in all stadiums, digital rights on the UEFA platforms and the use of the Euro 2024 logo. The games will also be broadcast via MagentaTV during public viewing.

As part of the partnership with UEFA, Telekom is also responsible for the entire digital infrastructure at the European Championship. This includes the networking of the ten stadiums, the fan zones and the 24 team quarters and training locations. Telekom also wants to set up additional IT networks in the EURO stadiums so that TV images can be transmitted and media representatives can work smoothly. These networks should also remain in the stadiums after the European Championship.
