Hiker falls down cliff and dies

A hiker had a fatal accident in the Bernese Oberland on Monday. According to the Bern canton police, the man was off the official hiking trail.

cog · A man fell down a rock face in Adelboden on Monday and died. This was announced by the Bern cantonal police on Tuesday. According to the police, the man was with a woman off the hiking trail on the descent from Engstligenalp towards the valley station.

Shortly before 10 p.m. on Monday evening, the police were informed about the mountain accident. The forces then found the hiker in the creek bed of the Artelebach and could only determine his death. The companion of the casualty was uninjured.

How the crash happened has not yet been clarified. Nothing is known about the identity of the hiker. The Oberland public prosecutor’s office has initiated investigations to clarify the precise course of the accident and the circumstances.
