Indeed, last May in Lyon, Joseph, then aged 22 months its seriously burned when falling on a cast iron telephone plate in his garden, which had heated strongly in the sun. His mother Alix recounted the traumatic event to Progress. “We heard a terrible howl. When we picked him up, we saw his skin stuck to the cast iron plate. We immediately understood that it was very serious,” she says. The child was then treated at the Chambéry emergency room.

To relieve his pain, doctors gave him morphine. “The HCL (Hospices Civils de Lyon) teams entrusted us with that they regularly treated burns linked to manhole covers or telephone plates”, explains Alix. Accidents which are therefore unfortunately frequent. Especially since the little boy’s convalescence will be long and painful. Indeed, Joseph was finally transferred serving serious burn victims from the Edouard-Herriot hospital.
He had to stay hospitalized for twelve days. When he leaves, the little boy must wear “compression sleeves 24 hours a day to promote healing”. He will then have to undergo rehabilitation for several months. A long ordeal which could even end in an operation. “Unfortunately, surgery cannot be ruled out. laments his mother. A sad story that reminds us to be careful with street furniture during hot weather.
