Hofer branch was on fire – this is how the police want to catch the fire devil

Not only are the final construction work in full swing before the reopening of the burnt down Hofer branch in Klagenfurt, but also the investigations. As reported, the police want to track down the arsonist with the help of an elaborate cell phone evaluation – this is not often allowed.

“We are still waiting for the evaluation results from the State Criminal Police Office,” reports Markus Kitz from the Klagenfurt public prosecutor’s office. The investigators were allowed to evaluate all cell phone numbers that were in the vicinity at the time of the crime – and to compare them with other arson crime scenes. Kitz: “It’s time-consuming, but feasible. And we hope for concrete results. ”Such investigative methods are not always approved. The disastrous forest fire on the Rax, for example, which kept 9,000 emergency services on their toes until the beginning of November and caused around 30 million euros in damage, could remain unexplained as cell phone analysis is prohibited for the area one only assumes negligence on the Rax; while the Hofer fire devil is assumed to be premeditated. Arson can be imprisoned for up to ten years, which also justifies stricter measures to track down the perpetrator. Incidentally, the Hofer branch was rebuilt in record time and is due to open next week.
