It is a terrible act that Karim O. * (45) is said to have committed. He is suspected of having killed his work colleague Jean M. * († 35) with several knife stabs on April 27, 2011. The two men trained as air traffic controllers at Basel-Mulhouse Airport.
At the time of the crime, Karim O. was living in Saint-Louis and had been on sick leave for three months due to mental health problems. The police were unable to arrest Karim O. – the alleged murderer managed to escape.
But now there is a new reference to his whereabouts: A French special unit is said to have discovered Karim O. on a Chinese dating site, as the French regional newspaper “Midi Libre” writes.
China does not want to extradite him
It is a hot lead after the police search has so far been unsuccessful. But the Chinese authorities refuse to extradite the alleged murderer to France, as reported by “Dernières Nouvelles d’Alsace”. The reason are broken negotiations on an extradition agreement between France and Hong Kong.
The newspaper also writes that the widow of the murdered air traffic controller wrote a letter to French President Emmanuel Macron. In it she demands the extradition and condemnation of the man. (gin)
