Of course, when we love a person with all our heart, we always love the person with all their strengths and weaknesses. After all, our flaws and mistakes characterize us just as much as our talents and abilities – they make us unique and unmistakable. Besides, others would feel terrible around us if we were perfect – and we would feel terrible around us if they were!
What’s exciting is that we generally perceive ourselves very differently than those around us: We tend to be very aware of our weaknesses, but minimize them as best we can out of self-protection. Fucked up? Well, when it comes down to it, I always get everything done! Vain? That’s why I’m always perfectly styled! Unreliable? Fun and joy are more important to me! While others can be a little annoyed about things like this from time to time, we should come to terms with our shortcomings if possible (or get rid of them) – after all, we have to live with them all the time.
But: Just like our weaknesses, we often put our strengths and positive qualities into perspective. Sensitive? Well, I’ll try, but whether I’ll actually succeed, I have no idea. Reliable? You have to be if others are counting on you. Honest? Great, but I don’t know how to package it nicely. We should be completely proud of our strengths and ideally see them as others perceive them – because then we can expand on them and use them as best as possible.
