Mulled wine is okay. But two cups are enough. Our author finds the latest highlight among hot drinks much better: glow gin. Bottom up!

by Linda Berger

Mulled wine belongs to Christmas like gin to tonic. But honestly, at some point it only tastes like sugar water with cinnamon and everything that has come into contact with it sticks better than any hot glue.

Variety is needed and we have already found it. Instead of sweet slop, we slurp in proper style hot gin.

And best of all: you can prepare it yourself very easypeasy.

Instead of wine, our favorite spirit forms Gin the basis for the delicious hot drink. The rest of the ingredients stay the same!

By the way: The trend drink for this winter is coming without added sugar out. This makes mulled gin not only delicious, but also lower in calories – yeah: more gingerbread, cookies and stollen!

Glowing gin – how to prepare it!

Ingredients for 4 portions of glow gin:

  • 100 ml gin (depending on how strong you want the glow gin to be)
  • 800 ml naturally cloudy apple juice
  • A large piece of ginger
  • 6 cinnamon sticks
  • 8 whole cloves
  • 4 star anise
  • 1 pinch of allspice
  • 2 organic oranges

Preparation of the glow gin:

  1. Pour apple juice into a large saucepan.
  2. Peel the oranges, squeeze them and put them in the pot together with the orange zest.
  3. Thinly slice ginger and add
  4. Add cinnamon sticks, cloves, allspice and star anise to the juice.
  5. Then warm everything up over medium heat for 20 minutes
  6. Important: The liquid must not boil!
  7. Finally add the gin and use a ladle to pour the brew directly into the cups.

The glow gin is ready!

Also delicious: You can also prepare the glow gin as a dark variant with currant juice or red grape juice instead of apple juice. The spices stay the same.
