Household video: Cutlery in the dishwasher – handle above or below?

Cutlery in the dishwasher is often not really clean – you can see in the video why this is often due to how it is sorted around.

Cutlery that still has some food left behind after the dishwasher is disgusting – and above all, unnecessary. Often it is just small things that make the difference between "clean" and "dirty" – such as positioning them in the cutlery box of the dishwasher.

Which we all often do wrong

Even though dishwashers use their kitchen appliances every day (or even more often), there are a few things in their heads that are more harmful than useful. For example, there are still many people who wash their dishes thoroughly in the sink before they can be put in the dishwasher. Dishwashing for the dishwasher? Of course, this is absurd – but it was not so long ago that the devices actually did not handle dried-up food residues so badly that it was necessary to take a detour through the sink beforehand. In the meantime, however, dishwashers and cleaning agents have become so effective that excessive "pre-rinsing" can sometimes even be counterproductive – a little "contact surface" now often achieves better results.

Blind trust in false promises

The packaging notice that many tabs already contain rinse aid and salt weighs many of us in confidence that we then practically have nothing to worry about. But that's unfortunately wrong: Many models still need regular salt and rinse aid replenishments. If the corresponding warning lights on your dishwasher light up, you should better refill quickly – no matter which tabs you use. Our trust in the "car" wash cycle is sometimes out of place. With some soiling, only the program with the higher temperatures can really ensure a brilliant result. Conversely, the "Auto" program is often totally exaggerated. If you mainly have cups, glasses and lightly used dishes, the quick program with more energy-saving temperatures is almost always enough.

And the cutlery?

Many households are divided as to whether the cutlery should be upside down in the dishwasher. There is actually a very clear announcement, which direction is correct – and when you should better make an exception. Why this is so, you very much in the video above.
