fun, news, tips… what else?

Watering the plants is fine. But giving them too much water can be very bad for them and cause them to die. Here’s how to tell if plants are being overwatered.

Plants bring a touch of life and green to your interior. We love them a lot for their decorative side, but also for their mental and health benefits. Being surrounded by plants is good for morale! Some plants even have depolluting properties and are therefore perfect for purifying your living space, whether in the bedroom, bathroom or living room. Don’t have a green thumb? We understand you. Caring for potted plants isn’t always easy. Cacti, orchids, ficus, succulents… Each has its own particular needs. They don’t all need the same amount of water. If you water a cactus too much, for example, it risks rotting (yes, rotting)… And that’s a shame. But then how do you know if the plants are overwatered?

An overwatered plant is a plant that is in a waterlogged soil. You know when the amount of water exceeds the potting soil’s ability to swallow it. Another sign that your plant may be overwatered: leaves closest to the ground turn yellow or brown. What are the risks for the plant? It’s simple: the roots rot and the plant can be prone to infection and die.

Plant too watered, how to rectify the situation?

If you find that your plant is overwatered, all is not lost. How to recover the damage? At first, it seems logical, but stop watering it and place your plant in the shade. Remove it from its pot to let it dry in the open air for a few hours. Replant the plant in a pot, replacing the soil that is still wet and removing the roots that are too damaged. Once done, moisten the soil and let your plant live. Find out about the ideal watering schedule : an orchid needs to be bathed for one hour every week, a ficus needs water once a week, succulents once a month… To water the plants in your absence, you can get or make a “automatic” watering tool to be filled so that the plant “feeds” with the quantity it needs. Your plants will no longer be drowned!
