To heal its supply chain, give a boost to the market… and above all ultimately benefit from better quality OLED panels, Samsung Display plans to introduce a new platform called “Sync-OLED”. Already launched according to some sources, it aims to standardize the tests carried out on the components and materials required for the manufacture of OLED screens.

As specified by Android Headlines, the new Samsung Display test platform was designed with the help of the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information Supercomputing Application Center. In development since 2020, it makes it possible to concretely pre-evaluate OLED materials and their characteristics in a simulation. With it, Samsung wants to create a “ecosystem of organic materials” to improve ultimately the performance of its tiles.

A platform that emerges after nearly two years of development

The platform “Sync-OLED” wants to be as open as possible to serve current Samsung Display partners, but also independent companies specializing in materials and research, we read. This openness is virtuous for the market: it will prevent companies from having to spend large budgets to carry out similar tests on their own.

Beyond the standardized test protocols that this new platform will offer, its opening could give a new dynamic to the market, for example by allowing young players to grow under better conditions. This is also one of the arguments of Chang-hee Lee, Vice President of the Samsung Display Research Institute. For him, the creation of the platform “Sync-OLED” should give the opportunity to these “talented startups“to take advantage of a “qualitative and quantitative growth“.

Investing in this type of project is clearly in Samsung Display’s interest as the OLED market has continued to grow rapidly in recent years. The subsidiary of Samsung Electronics has also announced several times production increases to support this growth, particularly in terms of screens with small diagonals.
