Baltee Mobility was present at the Vélo In Paris 2024 festival to present its safety device called B-01. Anti-theft alarm, fall detector, emergency call button, emergency contact: this connected module wants to be your true guardian angel on a bicycle, or even on an electric scooter.
Baltee Mobility is more than a Rennes start-up, it is a family entrepreneurial adventure. Armand Fourtané founded the company 2 years ago alongside his father, raising two rounds of fundraising thanks to the so-called Love Money financing method – relatives and friends invest in your company -, the person tells us at Vélo In Paris 2024 festival.
With 180,000 euros in his pocket, Baltee wants to provide the ultimate solution for your cycling safety. How ? Thanks to the B-01 connected device which is full of functions. This attaches in a quarter turn directly to the SmartFix support designed by the brand, and is compatible with 22, 25.4 or 31.8 mm wide handlebars. The device also benefits from a patented locking system, to be managed from the application to prevent theft.
Emergency contact and SOS button
The idea of the B-01 is simple: in the event of a fall, for example, the Baltee B-01 is there to support you. “There is a fall detector, which contacts by email, SMS and which gives your location to your emergency contacts previously entered in the application», and this ends after 15 seconds. It is exactly within this allotted time that you must press the main button of the module to prevent the system from calling your emergency contacts.
The SOS button allows you to contact your emergency contacts by simply pressing it for 3 seconds. “If you feel unwell, if you are attacked, support yourself and contact is established», Explains Armand Fourtané. This can be very useful at night, if you sense imminent danger.
In the event of suspicious movement, an audible alarm constitutes the first deterrent. After 5 seconds, the alarm increases to 100 decibels to become ever more disturbing for the thief. In addition, a notification is sent directly to your phone to alert you of the situation.
If you activate the alarm inadvertently, simply use your application or enter a code directly on the device to stop everything.
Two types of sound alert
Finally, this safety assistant acts as a warning signal for other road users: a short press generates a short, high-pitched sound of 60 decibels, while a long press causes a more powerful alert of 100 decibels.
Protected against rain and dust (IP65), weighing 80 grams and with an autonomy of 8 days, the Baltee B-01 will benefit from an official launch in September. Current reservations made on the site will receive their device from June, in advance.
A future more community service
From 2025, Baltee Mobility will seek to make its application and its system more community-based, with, precisely, the establishment of a mutual aid community. For example, everyone around you will be able to receive a notification in the event of an SOS or fall, provided that they also have a Baltee B-01.
This security device costs the sum of 149 euros including tax.
