How to change your Instagram password?

Instagram allows you to change your password, but there are many steps to take. The change disconnects all active sessions.

There are several ways to protect your Instagram account. You can limit access, to prevent anyone from viewing shared photos. It is also possible to activate two-factor authentication (also called double authentication). And one can also change the password if one thinks that the one used is compromised or too weak.

The procedure to change password on Instagram is not fundamentally complicated, but it is a bit long. If you have no real reason to be alarmed, there is no point in periodically renewing your password. This should only be done if unauthorized access has taken place, if your credentials are in the wild or if you have used a code that is too simple.

Instagram warns that this change will cause a global disconnection of all active sessions except the one you updated your code with. This is a measure to protect the Internet user if fraudulent access has been set up. This disconnection will require, for example, to reconnect on the application of your smartphone.

Warning: the creation of the password is subject to certain computer hygiene rules: you must use a code comprising at least six characters, which combines numbers, letters and special characters. However, we advise you to make it a little longer – ten or twelve characters constitutes a minimum. It must also be unique.

A convenient option is to use a password manager, so that the burden of memorization is shifted to a dedicated tool. Managers have undeniable assets: even if they are not perfect, they are considered preferable — by far — to the option of writing everything down on a sheet of paper or believing that everything can be remembered.
