The series “Astrid and Raphaëlle”, which features a duo of policewomen, Raphaëlle, an impulsive woman, and Astrid, an autistic librarian, continues to be a hit on France 2, even after three seasons. How to explain such a success? According to the producer of the show, the public became attached to these two women so different but both very touching.
Astrid and Raphaelle is the detective series of France 2, broadcast on Friday evenings. It features a duo who solve investigations: a cop and an autistic asperger who works in the police judicial records department. This series systematically exceeds or approaches five million viewers on Friday evenings on France 2. Not only is this a very good audience, but it is also an audience that is progressing on certain episodes compared to the first two seasons.
A touching and playful series
It is a very rare occurrence. Usually, audiences for series erode over the seasons. In addition to the fact that TF1 audiences are impacted by the Canal+ cut, we cannot deny the enthusiasm aroundAstrid and Raphaëlle. How to explain such a success? What worked well in these new episodes?
“We are convinced of making a series that is fun and that works”, explains the producer of the series Jean-Sébastien Bouilloux on Europe 1. “We tell ourselves that what we have put in place has worked well. But , there is not a rational explanation for that. Afterwards, we still have some explanations. This season three had a particularity: it was a bit the emotional culmination of many things in the characters, in particular the two stories of love between the two characters. These are very touching stories. In any case, we tell ourselves that the more we go towards the emotional, the more people are touched by that. And since it is also a love story that is quite atypical, it touched the public”.
Season 4 is already being filmed in France. And, abroad, the series is broadcast in about twenty countries. And, it has just been bought by Japan as well.
