How to migrate your passwords from Chrome to NordPass

NordPass is one of the industry’s leading password managers. If this is the software you have chosen to store your secret codes, perhaps you want to know how to easily move the passwords stored on your browser to send them to their new destination.

The explanation in this paper is based on Google Chrome, which is the most popular web browser today. However, the process is generally quite similar if you use another tool to surf the net, whether Edge, Firefox or Safari. Only the initial path will be a little different, which changes from one application to another.

Before you start using your new password manager, the first thing to do is to recover the codes stored elsewhere.

Export your passwords on Chrome

This method works in particular with browser version 120.0.6099.225.

• Open Google Chrome on your computer;
• Display the drop-down menu with the vertical ellipsis located at the top right;
• Go to browser settings;
• Then “Autocomplete and passwords” in the left menu;
• Tap “Password Manager” in the center of the screen;

• Go to “Settings”, in the left menu;
• The option to export your passwords will be displayed;
• Press “Download file”;

Import your passwords into Dashlane

• Launch your web browser;
• Open the NordPass extension (you must install and configure it before);

• Click “Settings” in the window (a gear icon);
• Scroll down to the “Import and export” line;

• Choose “Import items”;
• Select “Google Chrome”;
• Drag and drop or fetch the CSV file to your PC;
• Double-click it to import it;
• Review the imported passwords (you can uncheck the ones you don’t want to transfer)
• Once everything is good, click “Import”;
• After a brief moment, the time of the import, you will have a success message at the end.

When you have finished this operation, remember to get rid of the CSV file from your computer, if you no longer have any use for it. If your PC is shared, you otherwise run the risk of someone else reading it. Delete it and empty the trash. The document is not protected (because it must be readable by the manager).

If you are importing your passwords to NordPass, it is safe to assume that you are setting yourself up with a manager. It’s a good idea, certainly better than using post-its. This type of tool offers a higher level of security. Just remember to add two-factor authentication: NordPass is compatible.
