how to take advantage of the new unlimited train package 49 euros, the Rail Pass

The 700,000 young people under 27 will be able to buy a Rail Pass for 49 euros to travel unlimited with TER and Intercits everywhere in France, except in Le-de-France, in July and August. They will be on sale from the beginning of June via the SNCF Connect application.

The Rail Pass, allowing young people under 27 to travel unlimitedly on TER and Intercits across France, will be launched this summer at a price of 49 euros per month for July and August. 700,000 young people are potentially affected.

Patrice Vergriete, Minister of Transport, announced this Friday on Sud Radio that subscriptions would be available from the beginning of June, probably via the SNCF website, that is to say SNCF Connect.

This project, resulting from negotiations with the regions, is presented as an experimental phase, with plans for future development.

A probable extension of the system

Patrice Vergriete raised the possibility of extending the Pass to Ile-de-France from next year, a region currently not included due to technical complexities linked to the integration of train and metro subscriptions. Despite everything, the Intercités and TER trains departing or arriving from Paris or another Ile-de-France municipality will be affected by the Rail Pass. These are the RER, metro and other Transiliens which are not, for the moment, concerned.

He also mentioned the possibility of using the Pass all year round, not just during the summer.

The minister also revealed discussions with Germany for a Franco-German Rail Pass by 2025. This would allow holders to travel in both countries with the same subscription of 49 euros. This idea follows the German Deutschlandsticket initiative, which offers unlimited access to transport in Germany for the same price.

Patrice Vergriete emphasizes that the Rail Pass is a starting point which will be gradually improved.
