Hasn’t it been like that between you and your job for a while? No wonder if you’ve been doing the same thing for over three years.

If you have been working in your job for over three years and are no longer happy, we have important news for you: You have to get out of there! Why? Because one’s own attitude towards the job is divided into seven phases and after three to seven years most people simply run out of breath. According to science, there is only one thing left to do: run away. Because unfortunately it doesn’t get any better.

Stage 1 – Barney-Stinson Enthusiasm

When you start a new job it is exciting and new. You are bubbling over with energy and find yourself immersed in the new matter. Your motto is (based on Barney Stinson): New is always better!

Phase 2 – The rose-colored farewell glasses

Oops, the new job is somehow exhausting … and the colleagues are more reserved than initially thought. Was it a mistake to change jobs? It wasn’t! It is quite normal for the sadness to come after a few weeks. Don’t worry, go by.

Phase 3 – The yeah-yeah-yeah phase

Look, it’s actually going pretty well. New friendships, first successes and the nice beginning of a sense of togetherness make everyday work really nice again. If not, this is really a fucking job.

Phase 4 – My-job-is-my-castle phase

It works – and really. In the fourth phase we feel completely at ease with everything and settle down on a solid level. You don’t win any prizes for it, but we’re fine for that. Burnout? What’s this?

Stage 5 – Give Me More Stage

Now or never. In the give-me-more phase, the engine runs at maximum power. This phase lasts for a few months or a few years, but after five years at the latest, even the toughest employee has reached the end of his give-me-more phase. Most of them after a year at the latest. This phase often includes a promotion or a salary negotiation that is finally going well.

Stage 6 – Bother Me Everything Stage

That was it. Anyone who suddenly groans on Sunday evening or welcomes a little flu is done with the job. That’s ok and just a sign that the time has come to take a step forward. So quickly request an interim reference and go looking for a job. There is still enough energy to present yourself well.

Phase 7 – Harpe Kerkeling phase

It is high time to shout “I’ll be gone”. Those who did not use phase 6 now have little time to save themselves. Anyone who gets stuck in the Harpe Kerkeling phase will sooner or later get sick or clash with the boss. Now or never. Life is too short to remain in stable calamity.
