Huawei continues to compete in the laptop
and unveils its MateBook X Pro, version 2022.

The Chinese company’s flagship will offer a slightly larger screen as well as better performance.

Performances announced with half a word

It’s quite paradoxical when we present a new computer supposed to compete with the bigger ones (not to say Apple’s MacBooks), but that’s what happened: Huawei did not give a lot of details on the performance of its MateBook X Pro 2022, which will run under Windows 11.

We knew at the time of the announcement that it would be equipped with a choice of an 11th generation Intel Core i5 or i7 and that the power would be doubled compared to the MateBook X Pro 2021.

On the memory side, Huawei will offer 16 GB of RAM for the two versions of the laptop, as well as a choice to be made between 512 GB of storage or 1 TB, all in SSD of course.

More details on the Huawei website

By digging around on the official Huawei website, we were able to find the supposed reference (if that is not an error) of the two processors. For the Intel Core i7, it will in all likelihood be the i7-1195G7, launched in the second quarter of 2021. For detail, its maximum frequency is 5.00 GHz and it has four cores. In comparison, the i7-1165G7 processor used for the older generation MateBook X Pro (2021) went up to 4.70 GHz with the same number of cores.

As for the i5, Huawei seems to have chosen the 1155G7 model with its maximum speed of 4.50 GHz, which will therefore take over from the i5-1135G7 and its 4.20 GHz. Both are equipped with four cores, like the i7s named above.

A larger screen with a webcam above it

No more webcam in the keyboard! Passing initially for a good idea, the integration of the webcam under a key was finally rather strange during the use. Between an unsightly angle and discomfort in use, the feedback has not been the best. Huawei therefore backtracked towards something more classic, namely the webcam positioned above the screen.

The latter is also intended to be a reference in the field. With its definition of 3,120 x 2,080 pixels, its refresh rate of 90 Hz and its diagonal of 14.2 inches at a 3: 2 ratio, there is no doubt that the screen (touchscreen moreover) of the MateBook X Pro 2022 will know to please. All you have to do is check the colorimetry and the precision of it. Only downside, we are undoubtedly dealing here with an LTPS LCD screen, no OLED at the rendezvous.

MateBook X Pro 2022 availability and pricing

For the moment, only availability in China has been announced by Huawei, which is set for January 6, 2022. Price side, the i5 model with 512 GB of storage will be offered at a price of 9,499 yuan (or 1317 euros excluding taxes ).

The i7 version with 512 GB will be priced at 10,499 yuan (1,456 euros excluding taxes). The latest, and the most expensive, is the i7 with 1TB of storage, which will be sold for 12,499 yuan (1,733 euros excluding taxes).
