huge patches with requested features

After the first update to fix the very annoying saving issue, Baldur’s Gate 3 promises to eradicate an impressive number of issues in a new patch.

Despite being released in the middle of summer, Baldur’s Gate 3 is a real steamroller. The RPG from Belgian Larian Studios has become the highest rated game in OpenCritic history. Just that ! It also broke attendance records on Steam and topped pre-orders on the US PlayStation Store. The title, however, has not escaped the flaws of youth, like all AAA. But the teams already have an established roadmap for moving forward and perfecting the user experience.

A massive Baldur’s Gate 3 patch

Since its launch, Baldur’s Gate 3 had to struggle with a save problem that was extremely penalizing for players. It was indeed impossible to save any progress due to a bug in the cross-save feature. The option that will allow you to switch from the PC version to the PS5 version, and vice versa, while keeping all the progress. The developers took the decision to deactivate the option pending the release on PlayStation 5, and took the opportunity to correct crashes, audio, gameplay, multiplayer, interface problems or glitches directly related to the engine of the game.

But the site is far from complete and the CEO of Larian Studios has indicated the roadmap Baldur’s Gate 3 in terms of fixes. Without promising a rollout date, the teams announce that there will be a small update, a huge patch, and a second that will even include community requests.

“We are very elated by your comments. It is very enriching. Currently, we are focused on fixing the issues you report to us, but we are open to suggestions. The current roadmap is a) a hotfix, b) Patch 1 with over 1000 fixes and adjustmentsc) Patch 2. This will include some of your requests” said Swen Vincke, CEO of Larian (via Twitter). Beyond communication, the designers of Baldur’s Gate 3 are very attentive to the players.

A highly requested feature coming soon

In the latest 2.1 update, Larian Studios also reduced the size of save files to prevent crashes. Due to the number of possible actions, including story choices, the folder where progress is stored could be too large. A concern that caused errors for some, but it is normally over.

At an undetermined date, a highly requested feature will also make its way into Baldur’s Gate 3: Appearance Change. It may seem surprising given the game, but it is a reality, it is impossible to modify the physique of your character after having created it at the beginning of the adventure. So you have to be sure of your shot until things change, but that’s expected! Publishing Director Michael Douse revealed that the developers are working on a solution. As for the possibility of a DLC, you can almost make a cross on it. Due to the balancing issue, an expansion is very unlikely.

If you have Baldur’s Gate 3 on Steam or GOG, remember that you only have a few hours left to grab a free gift. For PS5 players, the launch is still scheduled for September 6, 2023.
