- More than 30 people, including the elderly, women and children, were killed and then burned in Myanmar’s conflict-ridden state of Kayah.

A local human rights group said they found the cremated bodies near the village of Mo So. “We strongly condemn the inhuman and brutal killing that violates human rights,” said the Karenni Human Rights Group.
The military speaks of “terrorists”
The Myanmar military government denied the allegations, saying it shot an unspecified number of “armed terrorists” from a local opposition group in the village. The people were traveling in seven vehicles and did not stop for the military, it said.

Hundreds killed, thousands arrested
Protests have been repeated in Myanmar since the coup in February, which the military justified by allegedly falsifying parliamentary elections. Strikes paralyze the economy and armed forces are forming in many parts of Myanmar.
More than 1,300 people have been killed since the military took power. Thousands were arrested. The coup put an end to the democratization process that had just begun a few years earlier.
