Less than a year after its launch, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 gets updated with a bigger 77.4 kWh battery, digital mirrors and new suspension settings.
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 has been showering pixels since its release. With its unique design inspired by the Concept EV 45 concept, its 800V platform allowing it high charging power up to 220 kW, and its advantageous performance/range ratio, this all-electric SUV is generating positive feedback. However, the Korean manufacturer has already decided to upgrade its Ioniq 5.
Currently, the Ioniq 5 is equipped with either a 58 kWh battery in propulsion, or a 72.6 kWh battery in 2 and 4 wheel drive versions. This latest battery will now be equipped with a new capacity of 77.4 kWh. Until now, the autonomy of the Ioniq 5 was given between 430 to 460 km depending on the choice of rims. The future gain of a little over 6% could make it possible to travel between 470 and 530 km in the WLTP cycle. We use the conditional because the data is in the process of being approved, according to the manufacturer. Additionally, battery pre-conditioning will now be paired automatically with a scheduled stop at a charging point in the on-board navigation system. As a reminder, pre-conditioning optimizes recharging and speeds up the process, especially in winter.
To this new battery is added a new suspension system called “Smart Frequency Dampers” (SFD), which also improves on-board comfort by adjusting the response of the front and rear suspensions. It is true that on small roads, we had pointed a slightly exaggerated roll.
Finally, among other new features, the Ioniq 5 will offer, as an option, digital side and central mirrors (DSM). Already available on Ioniq 5 models in Korea, this feature will be available in Europe for the first time on a Hyundai Motor Group vehicle. According to the manufacturer, DSM mirrors reduce air resistance and provide better visibility, even in bad weather.
Deliveries of this new version are scheduled from June 2022. Unfortunately, the price will undoubtedly increase, but is not disclosed. For the moment, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is displayed from €43,600 with the “small” 58 kWh battery.
