Hyundai Ioniq 6: more than 600 km of autonomy!

Unveiled in June 2022 and based on the Prophecy concept car, the Ioniq 6 inherits the group’s modular platform dedicated to E-GMP electricity and adopts an 800 V electrical architecture. Thus, with two different battery capacities (77 ,4 kWh and 53 kWh) and two types of propulsion (RWD and 4WD), Hyundai’s electrified sedan will be one of the most efficient general-purpose brand electric vehicles on the market. Indeed, the Ioniq 6 is capable of reaching up to 614 km of autonomy according to the manufacturer’s WLTP cycle. Few electric models are currently able to offer such autonomy.

The Ioniq 6 takes full advantage of the E-GMP platform to offer the longest wheelbase in its segment (2.95 m), which benefits habitability. Above all, it offers a fast charging capacity in 800 V which allows it to gain up to 351 km of autonomy in 15 min and to go from a charge level of 10 to 80% in about 18 min. The use of this platform has also enabled the manufacturer to concentrate its efforts on aerodynamics, where significant work has been done to reduce the drag coefficient.

The Ioniq 6 can indeed boast of offering a drag coefficient (Cd) of 0.21, the lowest in the Hyundai range and one of the best in the automotive industry. It’s better than the Tesla Model 3 (Cx 0.23) and only slightly worse than the Mercedes EQS (Cx 0.20). As a reminder, in the radius of records, we will have to reckon with the Lightyear 0, which has not yet entered production and will be, according to the manufacturer, the most aerodynamic production car in the world, with a record drag coefficient. of 0.175.

Such work on aerodynamics is not an engineering fad; Hyundai worked on an active air shutter, wheel air curtains to minimize airflow, an integrated rear spoiler and wheel arch reducers. If the Ioniq 6 is one of the most streamlined sedans in the world, it above all displays a consumption of 13.9 kWh/100 km in the 56 kWh battery configuration, two-wheel drive and 18-inch rims, or 429 km.

Hyundai sends us this table of consumption and autonomy, which we in turn send to you.
