“I blame myself because…”: how Jonathann Daval’s mother would have encouraged him to hide the murder of Alexia

Five years after the murder of Alexia Daval, Martine Henry, the mother of Jonathann Daval, comes out of silence in the magazine Sept à Huit.

Five years later, she comes out of silence. This Sunday, November 13, Martine Henry, mother of Jonathann Daval, was the guest of the magazine seven to eight to present his new book, Me, mother of Jonathann Daval, to be published on November 16th by Michalon editions. On this occasion, the one who gave birth to the murderer of Alexia Daval, murdered on the night of October 27 to 28, 2017, returned to the tragedy that turned her life upside down. She notably mentioned the lies of her son, who changed his version many times before recognizing all the facts, on June 17, 2019.

“I am responsible for the version change, she admitted, explaining that she despite herself pushed her son to deny the undeniable. I blame myself more than him. He went too far, he couldn’t get out. More than once he tried to talk to me about it implying that he had killed her, but I told him to stop talking horrible things. I didn’t want to hear that he was guilty, he was never violent. I blame myself because I didn’t help him talk. (…) It could have changed a lot of things. It wouldn’t have dragged on the lie that long. I didn’t do all the good all of a sudden.”

“You can’t deny your child, I still love him”

If Martine Henry wanted so much to protect her son, it is because she loves him today as on the first day. “I never had in mind to reject my son, we gave birth to children, I carried him for 9 months in my belly. I don’t condone what he did but you can’t deny your child, I still love him.”she confides to our colleagues from seven to eight. In his eyes, Jonathann is nothing like the manipulative and dangerous young man portrayed by psychiatric expertise. It’s completely false because Jonathann is none of that. You can ask lots of people who know him, they will tell you the same thing.“, she says, pointing out : “My son is not a monsterwhat he has done is monstrous.”

Despite the monstrosity of the acts committed by her son, Martine Henry goes to see him “in parliament every fortnight.” “We spend the weekend on site, it’s our routineshe says. At first it was complicated because he had lost a lot of weight, he looked like a skeleton. And then there was the apprehension and the fear of entering an establishment like that, it was very hard. Now we got used to it, it’s our life.” For the murder of his wife, Alexia Daval, Jonathann Daval was sentenced to 25 years in prison on November 21, 2020.
