“I challenge you to watch this without feeling like crying”: Albert Dupontel talks about his favorite movie scene

Albert Dupontel, who this week unveils “Second tour”, his new feature film, revealed to us his favorite cinema scene a few years ago. Find out what sequence it is!

Albert Dupontel is in the news with the release of his new feature film, Second Tour, in which he plays a man new to politics but favorite in the presidential election. On this occasion, and while the first spectators gave their opinion on the film, we return to this beautiful moment shared in his company, a few years ago, when he spoke to us with passion and emotion about his cinema scene preferred.

The cinema scene that Dupontel loves above all is taken from City Lights by Charles Chaplin, released in 1931. The story of this classic of the seventh art? That of a wanderer who falls in love with a beautiful and young blind flower seller living with her mother, covered in debt. Following a misunderstanding, the florist imagines the poor man, who has just bought her a flower, as a billionaire…

“For me, there is a scene, each time, I stay there, it is when the florist, at the end of City Lights, touches Chaplin’s jacket”Dupontel told us about stars in his eyes. “And by this touch, this ex-blind person recognizes him, she recognizes her benefactor.”

“The best dialogue in the world”: Alain Chabat’s favorite scene is this one!

“She was blind, she’s not anymore. She’s waiting for Prince Charming, because she knows she was helped by someone but she doesn’t know who. And she sees a poor tramp looking at her in the street with wide eyes. She said to herself, ‘poor boy, I’m going to give him a flower to be nice.'”

4.4 million admissions + rated 4.3 out of 5: what did Albert Dupontel think of this landmark 2023 film?

“She takes the flower and, it’s a genius idea, by putting the flower in the bum’s buttonhole, she recognizes the fabric and says “it was you”. It ends like that”continues Dupontel in a video to discover in our player above, supporting images of Chaplin’s masterpiece. “I defy you to watch this without wanting to cry. It’s a sublime idea. It seems that he had this idea before and that he made the film based on it.”

DiCaprio’s favorite scene? It comes from a film by someone he knows very well!

“It’s absolute perfection in terms of emotion. After the film was quite stirring in terms of humor, there is perfect emotion. Every time, I stay there”concludes a rather upset Dupontel. “I find it super moving, with absolutely incredible intelligence and emotion. I can see that scene again there, with you, every time I’m going to stay there. It’s funny, huh? I find that very very fair.”

Second round, the new film by Albert Dupontel, which sees him opposite Cécile de France and Nicolas Marié, is currently in theaters.
