This Saturday, December 16, for the first time in its history, the Miss France competition crowned a woman with short hair: Eve Gilles, Miss Nord-Pas-de-Calais. If the young woman insisted a lot on this, she also wishes not to be reduced to her hairstyle.
France finally knows its new Miss. Sacred during the competition miss France (TF1) this Saturday, December 16, Eve Gilles, Miss Nord-Pas-de-Calais, was elected to succeed Indira Ampiot. If she was not the public’s favorite, the 20-year-old young woman, partly from Reunion, convinced the jury. And in particular thanks to what made her stand out from the other candidates: her hairstyle. Eve Gilles is indeed the first young woman with short hair to parade and win the crown. “It’s one of my particularities! I am the first woman to run for Miss France with short hair, so obviously it can catch the eye and get people talking! Society evolves, the competition evolves with. I’m the first with short hair, but I don’t think I’ll be the last.”, she declared before her election. Then, once elected, the mathematics student continued with humor : “The crown fits very well on my short hair.“

The day after the competition, Sunday December 17, the crown still holds. If this insistence on her hairstyle earned her some mockery on social networks, Eve Gilles also defended herself on the set of TF1’s 13 Heures. Facing journalist Anne-Claire Coudray, the newly elected Miss returned to this detail by qualifying her position a little. “Yes, it’s a bit different from the Misses we knew before. But I don’t want to be known as ‘the Miss with Short Hair’“she explains. “We always tell ourselves that to be Miss, you have to fit into a box, to have attended Miss school. No way ! You just have to be as you arejust want it and want it“she continues.
“I am not unique only because of my hair”
Eve Gilles does not want to be reduced to her short hair, and already has an idea of the values she would like to uphold as Miss. “I want to be the strong woman. I want us to say to ourselves: ‘Okay, no matter where we start, no matter what path we take, we can succeed in achieving our goals'”, she specifies. The young woman says she wants to “show that the representation of women is diversethat we are all beautiful, that we all have our particularities, that we are all unique.” And she insists: “I’m not unique just because of my hairI am unique because I am Eve.”
