I have no more excuse not to send news to my grandmother

Thanks to Famileo, the digital and physical ties forged with your loved ones take on a whole new dimension. This application allows you to create a family gazette: all you have to do is add photos from your smartphone and they will then be printed and sent to your grandparents’ home in the form of a diary.

Staying connected with your family when you’re away isn’t always easy. What’s more with your grandparents, considered a less connected generation, less aware of existing technologies and less comfortable with our devices today – without generalizing either.

It was from the following question that an application became obvious: how to give regular news to my paternal grandmother, located 400 km from my home, without her putting the nose in the slightest new technology? This is where Famileo comes in.

text and images

The idea is simple: this application, mainly focused on photography, is a bridge between the digital and the physical. Its principle is based on monthly, fortnightly or weekly gazettes: depending on the formula, all you have to do is fill a gazette with images of all kinds, embellishing them with a short text (300 characters maximum with a photo).

At the end of the month (in my case), and once the gazette is full, the publisher takes care of sending it to my grandmother… in the form of a newspaper, in paper format, directly to her home. Every month, the same little routine is set up. Every month, my grandmother receives dozens of photos of her eight grandsons and granddaughters.

No emoji on the menu

Holidays, births, restaurants, cultural activities, landscapes, friends, girlfriend: the idea is obviously to show him our daily life and the big changes in our lives, without forgetting to fill in the body of the text provided for this purpose. A photo is good, but with a short description, it’s even better. Warning: it is impossible to add emojis (too bad).

Famileo is extremely practical, because it allows sharing the experience between siblings, cousins, uncles, aunts and parents (up to 60 people). Of course, a Messenger conversation is also capable of this. But Famileo goes further by publishing your gazettes. It’s turnkey here: you have absolutely nothing to do once your photos have been added. Everything is automated.

Photo montage

The Famileo application has some nice features. It is for example possible to insert photo montages (2 or 3 photos) according to predefined patterns and proposed by the app – just pay attention to the format of your photo. The family wall also works as a news feed that you can go up, in order to consult old publications. Nothing very disturbing.

Even more practical, a “Gazettes” section allows you to download one by one all the gazettes created so far. Another section entitled “Gallery” offers three sub-menus: all the photos added since the beginning in the form of a gallery, all the photos of each Family account (if you have several) and all your imported photos.

How much does it cost ?

Famileo has set up three paid formulas:

  • Monthly package: 5.99 euros per month, a monthly gazette, 30 messages per gazette, without obligation;
  • Bi-monthly package: 9.99 euros per month, two gazettes per month, 30 messages per gazette, without obligation;
  • Weekly package: 17.99 euros per month, one gazette per week, 30 messages per gazette, without obligation.

Each member of a family can participate according to their means. A monthly plan is a really economical alternative. At eight, it is enough for each person to pay 5.99 euros (one month) to guarantee eight months of gazette. Double the amount and this period stretches up to 1 year and a half — to the delight of your loved one.

In short, Famileo is a practical, intuitive and affordable application for giving news to certain loved ones with ease. It is both available on Android and iOS.
