  • Sarah Atcho suffers from pericarditis.

  • The Swiss track and field athlete will be out for several weeks.

  • According to her statement, she felt the first pain a few days after her third corona vaccination.

  • Now she speaks up in an interview.

The message from the Swiss sprint star Sarah Atcho caused a stir. She announced on Instagram that she was suffering from pericarditis, an inflammation of the heart. According to the 26-year-old, five days after receiving the third dose of the vaccine against Covid-19 at the end of December, she felt the first pains in her chest. Atcho suspects a connection with the booster vaccination; the sprinter writes this on Instagram, who receives a lot of encouragement and get well wishes from her fans under the post.

Now Atcho speaks to the Gaze. Despite the fact that complications occur more frequently with corona disease than with vaccination, the Swiss sprint star does not believe in coincidence. Compared to the “Blick” she says: “Nobody wants to clearly establish the connection between the vaccination and the pericarditis. But the specialists confirmed to me that it is possible. I had a check up in the fall and everything was fine. So it didn’t come out of nowhere. I received the third dose just before Christmas.”

“Today I have doubts”

However, she makes it clear that she is not opposed to vaccination. “I don’t think people shouldn’t get vaccinated,” said Atcho, who, along with other personalities, called on Swiss people to get vaccinated last November. And: “There is a higher risk that the virus will cause heart inflammation. I wasn’t initially convinced of vaccination, but it was the best way to slow down the pandemic and prevent deaths.” Personally, the main reason she got vaccinated was to be able to go to the Olympic Games in Tokyo last summer.

But Atcho also admits: “Based on my experience today, I have doubts whether it is necessary for younger people who are healthy.” However, she does not want to be an ambassador for opponents of vaccination. “I have nothing to do with the anti-vaccination camp.”

The Swiss sprint star now has to pause for about a month to rest her heart. She has no regrets about going public. She has received many messages from people who are struggling with the same or a similar illness. “People also wrote to me who were happy that I told my story. I’m happy if I can help, »said Atcho in an Insta story.
