“I would pay so much for…”: Kylian Mbappé, his rare confidences about fame

At only 25 years old, Kylian Mbappé has become the darling of the French. World champion in 2018, captain of the French teamco-captain of PSG, top scorer in Ligue 1 and the 2022 World Cup… Some compare him to Pelé. However, entering the light so young – remember that he was only 19 years old during the 2018 World Cup – certainly allowed him to realize his dreams, but also encroached on part of his youth. Kylian Mbappé rarely goes out, does not drink, adopts a balanced diet, trains several hours a day; all these sacrifices are made to take him where he aspires to go: to the top of the football world. On January 18, France 2 will broadcast a new episode ofCorrespondent, in order to to discover a little more about this football genius.

Faced with Élise Lucet, Kylian Mbappé spoke about his dreams, his regrets and his life. Faced with the extraordinary journey of the Bondy prodigy, the journalist could not resist asking him an unexpected question : “When was the last time you went to buy a baguette, alone on foot?” It is with a burst of laughter that the young man replied: “I don’t even remember them anymore! They’re simple things that were chores when I was little. I would pay so much now to do this kind of thing, which don’t look like anything to most people.” A confidence charged with emotion, which Élise Lucet took note of : “Is there any regret in what you say?” To this, the attacker replied: “No, no regrets, there is an inevitabilityand that’s an observation.”

“I lost spontaneity”

“If you were given the opportunity to do whatever you wanted for 48 hours without anyone recognizing you, what would you do?” asked Élise Lucet. The question caught the player off guard, making him smile with a dreamy look : “I’m spending my 48 hours outside, that’s for sure already!” he quickly replied with a burst of laughter. However, once he became serious again, he revealed his desire to do simple things, without having to organize or think everything through : “I lost the spontaneity of being humantell myself: ‘I want to go out and do that, I do it'” he confided, imbued with strong emotion. Although we tend to forget it, Kylian Mbappé remains a young man who aspires to enjoy loved ones, a meal in the sun or even a brunch “on the terrace”.
