Idols are removed from Dofus

Since their arrival on Dofus in 2015, idols have been a running gag in terms of possible redesigns. But, while Ankama seems to be skipping all features before Unity, this one is finally ending.

DOFUS: Redesign and removal of idols

Oldtimers will remember the idols intro devblog. A little before the quest for Turquoise and during the revamp of professions, Lichen then detailed the ambitious system. It was necessary to propose an alternative to wisdom and prospecting while revaluing the difficulty of the fights. However, despite a rebalancing, these ultimately only combined many problems. Combining with already existing sources of drop and XP, they are now ubiquitous and unrivaled.

Thus, after a few years of reflection, Ankama is making its “No more” with the idols.

So we prefer to remove the idols feature.

Devblog Dofus – Ankama

Of course, it would be too easy to just remove the feature. That would be to overlook the impact idols have on Dofus and its game design. Quest drop rates are studied with their bonuses in mind, not to mention resource overgeneration. To perform this heavy deletion correctly, Ankama will therefore apply several other projects, at least for the next update (2.68)

Revamped challenges

A first step will be a big improvement in combat challenges. They will become less random, more numerous and above all will aim to compensate, at least from a gameplay point of view, the idols.

Continuation of the works of 2022

As a reminder, Dofus had already had the right to adjustments to the experience and the drop with the 2.64 update, last year. Some tracks applied today (Idols in particular) were already detailed at the time. However, with the complete removal of a system, further action is required. Ankama’s objective will above all remain the same; promote farming around its level. It will be a question of helping the progression by facilitating the obtaining of stuffs of its slice.

In terms of more concrete changes, the drop and experience formulas will once again be in the changelogs. The GDs are also thinking about removing the penalty if the gap between the group of monsters and the player is too great. Achievements, especially bosses, will see a general drop in resource rewards. This slightly additional change aims to make farming more interesting without necessarily completely removing the existing system.

On the anomalies side, the team is aware of their new power. The bonuses will be slightly revised downwards, to rebalance them with the other features, while remaining important given their randomness. Spawn times should also be reduced, to better energize the system and avoid 100% stagnation.
Beyond that, the Almanax will undergo some alterations. Mainly, the effects should be in more areas. Indeed, a certain number of recent extensions did not participate in the Mérydes cycle. Rates should also change.

And the 2.68 update?

The Dofus 2.68 patch will arrive this summer. Ankama plans to integrate the following changes as part of the Idols redesign:

  1. The revamp of the challenges
  2. Revision of the drop & balance formula (upward), then the base drop rates of resources
  3. Resource drop in achievements
  4. Small adaptation of Temporal Anomalies

Note that the game teams do not yet know what will become of the “Idol” objects as such, recycling could have serious economic consequences. Regarding the successes of the latter in the dungeon, no details are provided. The drop in score would be more than a thousand points for some.
