At the end of last year (Edition 10/2021) ÖKO-TEST has dealt with a product that probably everyone has in the house: fitted sheets. Aside from having to deal with sweat and saliva, they shouldn’t wash out or rub off despite regular washing. The most important thing, however, is that they do not contain any critical substances that can harm people or the environment.
As the lab found, that’s not always the case. The experts were able to detect halogenated organic compounds in 11 of 20 bed sheets examined. They are considered potential allergy triggers and also accumulate in the environment.
After all: Five of the products perform “very well” in the test, including inexpensive models for less than 10 euros.
H&M and Ikea: Inexpensive test winners
In addition to expensive sheets, the test winners also included inexpensive brands. Test winners include this All nature Fine jersey fitted sheet Natura-Colora for around 38 euros (to Allnatura) and the Renforcé fitted sheet from Hess nature for around 35 euros (to HessNatur), both made from organic cotton.
If that’s too expensive for you, you should take a look at the two cheaper test winners: Das HM Home Fitted Sheet made from organic cotton for around 15 euros (to H&M) and the Varvial fitted sheet from IKEA for only 6 euros (to Ikea) also perform “very well” in the test.
