Illegal immigration to Mayotte: deportations to the border increased by 78% in 2021


In 2021, all the indicators of the prefectural report on the fight against illegal immigration were on the rise in Mayotte, in the eastern part of the Comoros archipelago: arrests on land rose by 47% (23,124 in 2021 against 11,849 in 2020) and arrests at sea by 59% (6,355 in 2021 against 3,989 in 2020), according to the prefectural report.

Results which are explained first of all by a shorter confinement period in 2021 (one month) than in 2020 (six months, during which the renewals had been stopped or slowed down), but also by a reinforcement in the number of forces order and by supporting aerial surveillance of the maritime domain between Mayotte and the Union of the Comoros.
