In addition to Florian Silbereisen and Toby Gad, Ilse DeLange is on the new “DSDS” jury. This is what you need to know about the Dutch singer.

Ilse DeLange (44), together with Florian Silbereisen (40) and Toby Gad (53), forms the jury for this year’s “Deutschland sucht den Superstar” season (from January 22, 8:15 p.m., RTL). A special role, because it will be the first jury in the history of “DSDS” without a veteran Dieter Bohlen (67). The Dutchwoman not only has many years of experience as a successful musician, but also as a juror.

Musical breakthrough at 21

While DeLange only became known to many in Germany through her participation in “Sing mein Song – Das Tauschkonzert”, she celebrated her breakthrough in her home country much earlier. Born in Almelo, Netherlands in 1977, the singer was drawn to music from an early age. She learned to play the guitar and wrote her first songs as a teenager. DeLange signed her first record deal at age 20 and moved to Nashville to work on her debut album, World of Hurt. Although she was not successful in the USA, her country album made it to number one in the Netherlands in 1998 and reached five times platinum. This is how the singer achieved great fame in her homeland. Their eight following albums also made it into the top five of the Dutch album charts.

Appearance at the Eurovision Song Contest

In 2014, despite her success as a solo artist, Ilse DeLange decided to form a band. She wanted to “finally not be the only one on stage anymore,” she said at the time as the reason for the creation of The Common Linnets. With the band, she finally gained notoriety outside of her home country. In 2013, The Common Linnets represented the Netherlands at the Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen. With “Calm after the Storm” the band took second place with 238 points behind winner Conchita Wurst (33). The song then made it into the top ten of the single charts in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Great Britain and the Netherlands. The band’s accompanying album was also able to place itself in the international charts.

“The Voice of Holland” and German TV shows

In 2013, DeLange sat in one of the legendary swivel chairs on the talent show “The Voice of Holland” for the first time. Since then she has also been a coach for “The Voice Senior” and “The Voice Kids” in her home country. By 2019 at the latest, she became known to a wider audience in Germany through her participation in “Sing mein Song – Das Tauschkonzert”. Another career highlight followed in 2019: Duncan Laurence (27), who had previously been discovered and coached by DeLange on “The Voice of Holland”, joined the ESC. With the help of DeLange, who took over the stage design for her protégé’s performance, among other things, Laurence won the competition. In 2021, Ilse DeLange took part in “Let’s Dance”. After the eighth show, she and dance partner Evgeny Vinokurov (30) had to leave the RTL dance format due to injury. With her jury post on “Deutschland sucht den Superstar” another project on German television begins for the Dutchwoman.
