Even at the age of 70, the deputy FDP chairman Kubicki does not want to back down. In April, the politician will be back as party vice. The reason: He must protect the political class from “ruining our lives in this country”.
The FDP politician Wolfgang Kubicki wants to run again as deputy federal chairman at the party conference in April. “I’ll be back,” Kubicki told the newspaper “Welt”. He follows the requests of the FDP chairman Christian Lindner and the Schleswig-Holstein state chairman Oliver Kumbartzky. Kubicki will be 71 on March 3rd. According to his own statements, Kubicki is also planning another candidacy for the next Bundestag.
He has the feeling “that my involvement is necessary to protect us in the political class from ruining our lives in this country with unfortunate decisions,” he said, explaining his candidacy as FDP vice president. His wife agreed to the plans after a long discussion – “with the condition that I have to lose ten kilos by the end of the year because she takes care of my health”.
With a view to his plan to stand again in the next federal election in 2025, the current Vice President of Parliament said: “As God and my state party want and I live, that will be the case.” His goal is again a two-digit result for the FDP. To do this, his party must “become significantly better in the 60+ age group”. The FDP got 11.5 percent in the September 2021 election; However, it is currently doing significantly worse in surveys.
Traffic light is “doomed to succeed”
Despite the political differences in the traffic light coalition, Kubicki warned against a break in the alliance. “What alternative is there? The Union is still not capable of governing,” said the FDP politician. “And sending Germany now, in this situation in Europe, to break up the coalition and start a new election campaign – that would mean making us almost unable to act for half a year.” That would be irresponsible, says Kubicki. The traffic light is “damned to success”.
He advises younger FDP politicians to be more courageous. He repeatedly encourages her “not to be afraid of offending,” said Kubicki, who likes to speak up loudly and with provocative statements. He added: “Swimming in a big current will not help the FDP. On the contrary.”
