IMF retains Managing Director

The board of directors of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) announced, Monday, October 11, that it was renewing “His full confidence” in Kristalina Georgieva, thus maintained in the post of general manager despite accusations of irregularities to which she was the subject.

The question of his retention at the head of the economic institution had been raised since the publication, in mid-September, of the conclusions of an investigation by the WilmerHale cabinet, carried out at the request of the World Bank’s ethics committee.

No “inappropriate role”

This investigation found irregularities in the drafting of the 2018 and 2020 editions of the World Bank’s Doing Business report. Kristalina Georgieva is suspected of having manipulated data in favor of China when she was in charge of the international monetary institution.

The IMF’s governing bodies considered that the information presented during the investigation did not allow a conclusion to be drawn “An inappropriate role” from the Bulgarian economist. For his part, Mme Georgieva immediately welcomed the move saying the allegations were “Unfounded”.
