Elisabeth Borne denounced on Tuesday “a sacred union” between the left-wing alliance Nupes and the far right, during the rejection on Monday in the National Assembly of the bill on immigration, which in her eyes took the form of an “unholy alliance”. “You only offer them (the French, Editor’s note) a sacred union between the Nupes and the extreme right. You only offer them chaos. It’s irresponsible, it’s dangerous”, first affirmed the Prime Minister to the leader of LFI deputies Mathilde Panot, during the government questions session at the National Assembly.
“Despite your attempts to prevent the debate, we will not give up on taking strong measures for our fellow citizens,” she insisted, telling the MP, in the hubbub: “You are angry with democracy and your group with”.
“The choice of irresponsibility”
Elisabeth Borne then accused Boris Vallaud, boss of PS deputies, of having “put aside (his) convictions”, of having “chosen to mix (his) voices with those of the extreme right” and of having ” made the choice of irresponsibility. Facing Eric Ciotti, deputy president of the Les Républicains party, she “welcomed the commitment of the Minister of the Interior” Gérald Darmanin and told him “all (her) confidence” before accusing LR of having “refused the debate” in an “unnatural alliance” with Nupes and the RN. “As with all texts, we are looking for compromises. As with more than 50 texts over the past 18 months, we know that we can achieve it,” she assured. “The search for agreements remains our method.”
The head of government finally told the president of the environmentalist group, Cyrielle Châtelain, that she would “not be proud” in her place of having “refused the debate” and “put a motion to a vote thanks to the votes of the extreme right”, again in an “unnatural alliance”. The government intends to convene “as quickly as possible” a Joint Commission (CMP), bringing together deputies and senators, to try to find a compromise on the immigration bill.
