The vote on the rejection motion, tabled by environmentalists, defeated the government on its immigration bill, nipping in the bud the debates, in the hemicycle, around the text which will now be referred to a Commission equal mixed. On the right, the RN and the LR played a decisive role.

The National Rally now wants to drive the point home. The day after the adoption of the rejection motion tabled by the Greens on the immigration law, and voted for by the RN, Jordan Bardella said he was ready, this Tuesday morning on BFMTV-RMC, to become Prime Minister of cohabitation, in case of possible dissolution of the National Assembly.

The scenario still seems very distant, but this exit of the party president illustrates the confidence of the National Rally which defeated the government on Monday, by waiting until the last moment to announce its vote on the rejection motion. The 88 votes of the RN weighed heavily in the balance and Marine Le Pen appears as the main opposition to the government, on the right.

A clear position among the LRs

For their part, the Republicans dispelled doubts about possible divisions within their group. The party chaired by Eric Ciotti was torn apart over pension reform, but this time, Olivier Marleix’s troops united and defended a clear position.

Bruno Retailleau and his colleagues, in the majority in the joint committee, could also end up imposing their version of the text, considerably tougher compared to that of the government. Conversely, while environmentalists are at the origin of the rejection motion, the left could therefore indirectly participate in the hardening of the text. Mathilde Panot, head of the LFI deputies, declared herself “ready” this Tuesday to return, if necessary, to the polls.
