The Nothing phone (1) has passed through the hands of testers and reveals itself a little more. Passed through the tortures of JerryRigEverything before being disassembled, the smartphone proves to be rather durable, but its exposure now reveals a completely different weakness.
It’s all well and good to have a head-turning design, but does the Nothing phone (1) do as well when it comes to durability and repairability? Nothing’s smartphone recently fell into the hands of tech product sustainability expert JerryRigEverything, who invites us to discover it. The phone (1) also had the right to a disassembly via the PBKreviews channel, which was responsible for examining the bowels of the phone.

The resistance of the Nothing phone (1) is quite good for a mid-range smartphone. The screen made of Gorilla Glass 5 resists minor scratches without problems and starts showing marks from level 6 on the Mohs scale, a usual score for smartphones with this material. The screen also recovers mostly after being exposed to flame for nearly 40 seconds.
As for the traditional test of folding, the aluminum frame of the smartphone resists the pressure exerted on it quite well. There is nevertheless a somewhat worrying point at the level of the antenna of the smartphone when it is folded which shows a very small separation, but which still goes back in place once the pressure is removed.
The Nothing phone (1) also makes some disturbing internal noises when folded from the front, which is usually not a very good sign of sturdiness. But it is clear that the device ends up surviving quite well here.
A low, but rather logical repairability score

When it comes to repairability, the story is quite different. The disassembly offered by PBKreviews shows us how much the smartphone requires a fairly in-depth knowledge of its internal design to be repaired.
The smartphone indeed contains many screws and plates and cables which are visible on the back and which constitute its unique look. You will therefore have to carefully remove them one after the other before you can access the battery or the screen of the smartphone in the event of repair.
The final score given by the tester is quite high with a 3/10 in repairability which seemed inevitable for such a smartphone bet. So the Nothing phone(1) should take time to fix due to its complex structure.
Spare parts for this model do not run the streets either. Hopefully Nothing will be able to offer an efficient after-sales service for consumers, unless you still want to embark on the adventure, but it will be at your own risk.
