Police in Fuzhou, capital of Fujian Province, found an unexpected witness to solve a burglary case.
It is a crime without witnesses. Or almost. At the end of June, the Fuzhou police investigated the burglary of an apartment where the intruder had made himself comfortable in the absence of the legitimate owner. The individual, after having seized the money and valuables, prepared a meal and quietly spent the night in the bed of the absent occupants. Without embarrassment but cautious, the thief left no clues offering a lead to the investigators. There was, however, a witness to his misdeed. But his body is now nothing more than a bloody mush on a wall, crushed mercilessly by an anonymous hand. This witness, savagely reduced to silence, is an ordinary mosquito.

However, the Chinese police immediately sense that the little insect corpse still has information to provide. First of all, they are convinced that the owners of this well-kept apartment would have wiped the wall with a sponge to erase the stain. They therefore conclude that it is indeed the burglar who killed the mosquito. From there to imagine that the insect had stung its executioner before dying, there is only one step that the investigators hastened to cross. Well they took it: by analyzing the remains of the victim, they isolated the DNA of the thief which, by chance, corresponded to that of a thug already arrested for a previous offense. Faced with this unusual but irrefutable proof, the thief not only acknowledged the facts but also confessed to three other unsolved burglaries. We do not know if the police paid tribute to this witness who died in the service of Truth, but we like to believe it.
