In Florida, a mother accused of having killed her two children: “I don’t want them anymore”

An American mother is accused of having killed her two children in Florida, after calling the emergency services herself, telling them that she no longer wanted them.

When she called the emergency services on Tuesday evening, Odette Joassaint’s words were incoherent. She wasn’t able to explain to the agent on the phone what she was trying to make him understand. When the police finally came to her house, it was a horrific scene on which she came across. The two children, who lived with their mother in Florida, were found dead, tied up and strangled. “Come get them, I don’t want them anymore,” she said according to the “Miami Herald.” Odette Joassaint was charged on Wednesday with first degree murder and was jailed without the possibility of bail.

According to the first questioning of the investigators, the mother would have explained to suffer from financial problems which made the life of her children even more difficult. She would have estimated that they would “suffer less if they died”, is it written in the report of the authorities.

The father of the two victims, Frantzy Belval, described the accused as being unstable, unable to keep a job and doing everything to return to live with him, which he would always have refused. “I told her she was crazy and just making trouble,” he told the Miami Herald. The mother had custody of their children, whom the father saw once a week.

Both parents had each been incarcerated for domestic violence in the past. Social services also seemed to follow the family. According to Miami police spokesman Michael Vega, at the time of his 911 calls, the mother was “in the middle of a fit of madness and anger.” When discovered, the two children were tied together with their heads turned towards the bed. Odette Joassaint said she strangled them with a red ribbon. Rescuers failed to resuscitate them.
