In Savoie, an impressive rockslide interrupts rail traffic between France and Italy

Rail traffic between France and Italy was interrupted on Monday, August 28, after a major rockslide in the Maurienne valley, which also caused difficulties on the road, according to official information available. The SNCF specifies that the resumption of traffic is not planned before Thursday August 31.

Sunday, around 5:15 p.m., “several blocks of rock representing a volume of about 700 cubic meters” struck the protective screen installed on the RD1006, in a “particularly monitored sector”, explained the prefecture of Savoie in a press release. In addition to the interrupted rail traffic, this departmental road and the A43 motorway have been closed for an indefinite period.
