In special centers – Intercepting illegal immigration outside the EU

Interior Minister Gerhard Karner (ÖVP) has rejected the Schengen opening for the internal EU borders of Romania and Bulgaria, which has caused some uproar. Upper Austria’s Integration Provincial Councilor Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer (also ÖVP) supports this step – which is justified by the largely unregulated influx of refugees – he had the “Krone” confirm on Friday morning.

State politician Hattmannsdorfer had emphasized in advance: “As a convinced European, it hurts that the EU is not taking action. Austria must draw even more attention to its situation and make its voice heard.” He also took the opportunity to reaffirm his ideas of the right asylum and migration policy to the “Krone”. Immigration offices outside the EU instead of illegal (and often fatal) smuggling Over the sea and through border rivers in no man’s land, Hattmannsdorfer envisage legal floodgates, so to speak. Namely the establishment of “immigration points” outside the EU, where asylum applications can be made as well as applications for the red-white-red card. Preferably in the countries of origin, for example in India and in the Maghreb countries in North Africa. Such a proposal came recently from FPÖ state party secretary Michael Gruber – we reported. Don’t leave immigration to chanceÖVP politician Hattmannsdorfer does not want the influx of asylum seekers and economic migration to be mixed up: “Austria must not leave immigration to chance, but must use specific criteria (qualifications, willingness to integrate and to learn German) to bring people to Austria who we need on the labor market.”
