Nagelsmann reportedly nominates Stuttgart quartet

Who else is jumping on the European Championship bandwagon, who will Julian Nagelsmann give a chance in the tests against France and the Netherlands? There is great speculation about the DFB squad. A Swabian connection should be fixed.

After flying high in the Bundesliga, a quartet from VfB Stuttgart can apparently also prove themselves in the national team. As Sky reported without citing sources, Waldemar Anton, Maximilian Mittelstädt and Deniz Undav are part of the DFB squad for the first time for the European Championship test internationals on March 23rd in Lille against France and three days later in Frankfurt against the Netherlands. Chris Führich, who made his international debut in October, should therefore be called up again.

National coach Julian Nagelsmann nominates his squad for the two classics on Thursday (2 p.m.) in Frankfurt. After the disappointments in November in the 2:3 against Turkey and 0:2 in Austria, the 36-year-old recently announced serious personnel measures. One of them is the already announced reactivation of Toni Kroos three years after his resignation from the national team.

There had recently been several speculations about a nomination from Stuttgart. Central defender Anton and left full-back Mittelstädt could be alternatives in defense. Nagelsmann and, most recently, sports director Rudi Völler recently announced major changes specifically for this part of the team in order to achieve more stability. Undav is considered an offensive option, especially as a backup for center forward Niclas Füllkrug.

When asked about a possible call from the national coach, Mittelstädt had already joked: “My cell phone is always on anyway.” After the 2-0 win against Union Berlin he said: “I think we have all submitted our application.” Undav’s nomination is already considered almost certain. He is currently the most successful German Bundesliga goalscorer with 14 goals and 5 assists.
