Russia will face ” a desaster “ if it invades Ukraine, warned Joe Biden on Wednesday January 19, while believing that his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, did not want a “large-scale war”. The President of the United States has warned against “heavy” casualties on the battlefield and sanctions “severe” unprecedented against the Russian economy.
Joe Biden has also promised to pass “wide sections” of his great social reform currently at a standstill, during a press conference held on the eve of his first birthday at the White House. He claimed not to be “not yet out of options” concerning his electoral reform supposed to protect access to the ballot boxes for minorities, his second major plan which seems doomed to failure in the Senate.
“A year of challenges”
The American president also affirmed that he had no “not anticipated” such a degree of opposition from Republicans, who have stalled several of his sweeping reform plans since his inauguration last year. “I didn’t make too big promises, he said, I had not anticipated that there would be such a partisan effort [des républicains] to make sure President Biden can’t accomplish anything”.
“It has been a year of challenges but also a year of enormous progress”, he said, citing in particular the massive vaccination campaign against Covid-19 and the economic recovery of the country.
