Acting star Nina Hoss is also affected by the industrial dispute in Hollywood. “I’m on strike too,” reveals Hoss in a new interview.

The German acting star Nina Hoss (48) is also affected by the industrial dispute in Hollywood. Hoss, who is particularly known in Germany for her collaboration with director Christian Petzold (62) in works such as “Yella” (2007) or “Phoenix” (2014), is also regularly in front of the camera for US productions. For example, she was recently seen in the lead role in the Amazon series “Jack Ryan” or the art house hit “Tár” with Cate Blanchett (54).

Great concern about the use of artificial intelligence

“I’m also on strike, my current project in the USA has been postponed,” reveals Hoss now in the current issue of the weekly newspaper “Die Zeit”. Hoss shows solidarity with the demands of the US actors. The German actress is particularly interested in the future potential use of artificial intelligence in film production. It’s about “finding a fair way so that we don’t see ourselves as interchangeable goods through the AI,” says Hoss. In the future, actor contracts must clearly stipulate that the actors do not assign their rights to their face and body with their role.

In addition, Hoss can empathize with the financial worries of US actors. “In the US, about 70 percent of the performers have one or two other jobs,” she explains. Therefore, all actors should already be compensated for making casting tapes.

Hoss is addressing one of the demands of the US actors’ union SAG-AFTRA. The current labor dispute is criticized for the fact that the low-income members of SAG-AFTRA in particular incur high costs for material such as camera equipment and make-up by taking test shots in their own homes.
