Inflation of the Abitur

Dhe two Corona years 2021 and 2022 have led to an inflation of the Abitur. In Saxony alone, the number of Abitur in 2022 has almost quintupled compared to 2013, it has tripled in Bremen and doubled in Thuringia. There, the proportion of A-level graduates was already relatively high in 2013, because Thuringia takes a central exam in the tenth grade in German, mathematics and the first foreign language have achieved the required grade point average of 2.0 or have passed an entrance exam.

The ministries of education had made a lot of concessions to the high school graduates in the two Corona years. In many countries, exams were canceled during the qualification phase and Abitur examinations were postponed, so that the preparation time increased. In addition, the examinees had more choice in the tasks. In addition, the high school students who, according to scientific studies, suffered the least from distance learning were taught when the schools were closed and were offered face-to-face classes when elementary school students either had no classes or insufficient distance learning.
