His debt fully paid
Nicolas Sarkozy’s former right-hand man was sentenced on January 23, 2017 on appeal to two years’ imprisonment, including one year suspended probation and a fine of 75,000 euros. He was serving this sentence – which became final two years later after the rejection of his appeal on points of law – under the conditional release system.
At the beginning of November, however, the Paris Court of Appeal had revoked part of his reprieve (3 months) and his conditional release (6 months), considering that Claude Guéant was not making the necessary payments to pay the fine and damages. and interest he had been charged. It was in execution of these decisions that he was placed in prison for nine months.
But on December 16, the latter paid 292,000 euros to settle the debt owed to the Public Treasury following his conviction and immediately applied for a sentence adjustment aimed at his release, hoping that the sentence enforcement judge will would study faster.
