Little by little, the messaging part of Instagram is gaining functionality and flexibility to get closer to the experience offered by Messenger. It is in this context that the Meta subsidiary began the gradual deployment of an update on March 4 bringing several interesting new features to its inbox, but also to conversations.

Among these additions, the possibility of modifying a message up to 15 minutes after it was sent, an option allowing certain conversations to be pinned to the top of the inbox, or the activation or deactivation of the “seen” notification for messages received.

Editing pinned messages and conversations

Editing messages is done directly in the conversation, using the pop-up window that appears after clicking and holding on the message you want to edit. This new feature is accessible in the same way as the function of withdrawing a sent message, for example.

To pin a conversation or group conversation to the top of the inbox, this time Instagram just makes us swipe left on a conversation, or click and hold on it. The Pin option will then appear alongside the options already allowing you to mute or delete the conversation.

Activating or deactivating the “seen” notification, displayed to the correspondent when you have viewed their last message, requires you to take a look in the settings of your Instagram account. From then on, simply go to the Messages and replies to Stories tab, then to Show read receipts to access said option.

More personalization for your Instagram conversations

In a slightly more incidental way, Instagram now allows you to save favorite stickers in conversations. To do this, simply click and hold on the sticker in question to put it aside and easily find it later. At the same time, stickers, gifs, videos, photos and other voice recordings are now directly available when you want to respond to a message, again using a click and hold.

Finally, Instagram announces the arrival of new background themes for conversations. To adopt them, this time you must click on the name of the conversation at the top of the screen, then go to the Theme tab to access the list of available backgrounds.
