A surprising processor
intended for the Chinese market alone, the interest of which will obviously depend on the prices charged by Intel.

It is an understatement to say that the information had surprised: on its large catalog of Alder Lake processors, Intel has a model specifically intended for the Chinese market, the Core i5-12490F, which seems to offer quite decent performance, superior to 15% compared to the Core i5-12400F.

Faster than Core i5-12400F / 12500

Designed from revision C0 while other Intel Core i5s are based on revision H0, the Core i5-12490F is a singular processor. It consists, like the others, of six performing cores without the support of efficient cores. On the other hand, it comes with 20 MB of cache (against 18 MB for the Core i5-12400F) and can climb up to 4.6 GHz frequency boost (against 4.4 GHz).

There is obviously no question of a full study yet, but the first measurements give this Core i5-12490F a definite advantage over the Core i5-12400F. We are talking about gains in single thread around 10% and multi thread closer to 15%. Note also that, compared to the Core i5-12500 (up to 4.6 GHz in boost), the Core i5-12490F still wins: + 2.5% in single thread and + 5% in multi thread.

The pricing charged by Intel will be particularly attractive and, who knows, maybe this processor will be distributed in other latitudes?
