Intel Raptor Lake (13th Gen) processors will support DDR5 and DDR4

A slide official presentation at an Intel event confirmed support for DDR4 RAM on upcoming 13th Gen Raptor Lake processors. A welcome compatibility for users.

Intel’s Raptor Lake processors, expected in the fall, are already raising high hopes in terms of performance, but also in terms of energy management, the 12th generation Intel CPUs having largely increased consumption compared to the 11th. According to the latest rumors, Intel may have revised power consumption downwards, and the most efficient models could offer up to 24 cores thanks to an increase in the maximum number of efficient cores. It is especially the RAM that has been talking about it recently, with good news for users.

DDR4 RAM still supported

During a conference dedicated to NAS in China, the manufacturer presented a slide revealing support for DDR5-5600 RAM by the Raptor Lake, but also for DDR4-3200. Intel therefore chooses, as on the 12th generation, a double compatibility which will prevent many people from having to invest in a configuration with a motherboard and DDR5 RAM, which are still very expensive today. A commendable decision, especially since AMD seems to be moving towards DDR5 compatibility only, leaving older configurations out, which would give Intel a small advantage.

In any case, it will take some time before DDR5 reveals its full potential, the gains being still minimal for the moment. In any case, we are eager to be able to test these new generations of AMD and Intel processors, which promise some new features and, we hope, top-flight performance.
