Arc 780 at 512 threads / 16GB GDDR6 and Arc 5xx at 384 EU and 12GB GDDR6 would be poor until next March.
At CES 2022, Intel will most certainly announce new Alder Lake processors, including non-K desktop models and those intended for the mobile sector such as the Core i5-1250P for laptops; possibly its dedicated GPUs known as Arc Alchemist. However, according to the latest rumors shared on the forums Expreview, the first maps would not be available until March.
Indeed, this will be the deadline for Intel to meet its commitments: in early December, the company released a promotional video confirming a launch in the first quarter of 2022. Note that we do not know whether this timeline applies to mobile cards or desktop, or even both.
What about the top of the range?
The leak of the day evokes two references. The first, with 512 execution units and 16 GB of GDDR6, would be positioned against the GeForce RTX 3070 / RTX 3070 Ti. According to previous information, it would be called “Arc A780”.
From there, since 512 execution units will be the maximum configuration for ARC Alchemist GPUs, it looks like Intel won’t be able to come and tease NVIDIA and AMD on the high end. To see the company tackle this segment, you may have to wait for ARC Battlemage solutions.
The second card, equipped with 384 execution units, would offer performance close to the GeForce RTX 3060 / RTX 3060 Ti. It would bear the designation “Arc 5xx”.
Finally, it is not mentioned here, but an Arc A350 card with 128 EU and 4 GB of GDDR6 would also be programmed.
Intel graphics cards, but also new AMD and NVIDIA references
What is certain is that when it comes to graphics cards, the start of next year will be full of announcements. As you can imagine, AMD and NVIDIA won’t let Intel gently step forward without responding.
The company led by Lisa Su would strike back with Radeon RX 6500XT and RX 6400, its first 6nm graphics cards. The one led by Jensen Huang would draw, among others, RTX 3050, RTX 3080 12 GB, RTX 3090 Ti desktop; mobile RTX 3080 Ti and RTX 3070 Ti.
Confirmation or denial of all these conjectures in a few days as part of CES 2022.
