INTERVIEW – Thomas Dutronc responds to Nikos Aliagas: “I have little scars everywhere because of my cat”

I like his humor and his sparkling look. Thomas made his way as an artist by immediately assuming the family heritage, a legendary heritage which has never been a free pass.. The boy is so funny, elegant and terribly modest, he enters the light to have fun and do good, not to take any revenge on his lineage. On November 24, he released a double live album entitled The general tour! where we find all the standards of the father and son, in duo and live. It’s sparkling and funny, like when Thomas Dutronc looks at himself in the mirror for a single click.

Nikos Aliagas: What is the first thing you look in the mirror?
Thomas Dutronc
: In the distance, behind my shoulder, to check that no one is seeing me looking in this mirror. Then I can calmly begin the hunt for giant nose hairs.

Nikos Aliagas: Who do you see in the mirror?
Thomas Dutronc
: Me who dreams of no longer having to worry so much about my appearance.

Nikos Aliagas: They say that the eyes are the mirror of the soul, what do yours say?
Thomas Dutronc
: “Hello buddy, give it a little more effort and soon the holidays! »

Nikos Aliagas: What do you like least about yourself?
Thomas Dutronc
: My extra pounds (laughs).

Nikos Aliagas: What do you like the most?
Thomas Dutronc
: My good will…

Nikos Aliagas: What would you change about yourself if you had a magic wand or scalpel?
Thomas Dutronc
: I would have measured 2m10 and weighed 110 kilos, just to gently correct annoying people of all kinds. I might have felt comforted by being such a force of nature! Do you think I’m jealous? Not at all… I have an extra toy.

Nikos Aliagas: What do your hands say about your life?
Thomas Dutronc
: They are quite loud because of the guitar. I have little scars everywhere from my cat biting me while playing, so that means I’m sacrificing myself for love. I have life lines, heart and intelligence that form a beautiful M! I Google this M, I don’t remember what it means: “The letter M symbolizes blessing, great fortune and success but also intuition, spirituality and courage. » Otherwise I also have very lax fingers, I can bend them completely. Google tells me this shows an optimum level of tantric power (laughs).

Nikos Aliagas: What part of your face reminds you most of your parents?
Thomas Dutronc
: Well sometimes my eyes remind me of one and sometimes they remind me of the other. And sometimes nothing.

Nikos Aliagas: What does the artist say to himself in the mirror before going on stage?
Thomas Dutronc
: Come on, old man! Have fun, be generous, be impeccable, but also let go, surprise yourself, also surprise your musicians and surpass yourself, do better than last time!

Nikos Aliagas: What does the artist say to himself in the mirror after the scene, when he takes off his makeup?
Thomas Dutronc
: Hello you, well that was good! So, see you later, it’s urgent to celebrate!

Nikos Aliagas: What is the danger that your profession presents? What would you say to a young person just starting out?
Thomas Dutronc
: I have no advice to give to young people. These bastards are already young, am I not going to help them?!? (Laughs) If sometimes the opportunity arises, I love to share my little experience. To make sure to give tips so that the “young person” doesn’t waste as much time as me. Let him try to get to the essentials more quickly…

Nikos Aliagas: Does the passage of time obsess you or does it slip past you?
Thomas Dutronc
: I think about it all the time. For example, Trenet’s songs about nostalgia, the dear face of one’s past, the little village, the street corner of childhood, our young years, move me terribly. There are joys and misfortunes buried in each period of one’s life. Versions of ourselves that we may be missing or that have something to tell us.

Nikos Aliagas: What if you had to ask your mirror a question to finish?
Thomas Dutronc
: What can I do to be better? To make those around me happier? And finally to be happier myself again?
